SYDNEY, April 21 (Xinhua) -- A woman has died and a man has been shot in a string of alleged carjackings and crashes in the Australian state of Queensland.

Queensland Police said in a statement on Monday that emergency services were called to reports of a multi-vehicle crash caused by a red Porsche on a highway about 80 km north of Brisbane shortly after midday.

A woman died at the scene, police said, adding that the male driver of the Porsche left the vehicle and shot another man in the arm before stealing his vehicle and fleeing the scene, early investigations suggested.

The stolen vehicle was found crashed nearby. The man then allegedly stole another vehicle before being arrested. The firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.

Police officers have declared three crime scenes and commenced an investigation into the incident. Enditem
