JAKARTA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of 4.33 billion U.S. dollars in March, up by 1.23 billion dollars from the previous month, according to government data released on Monday.

This marks the 59th straight month of trade surplus since May 2020, as announced by Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, head of the Central Statistics Agency, during a press conference.

The agency reported that Indonesia's exports rose by 5.59 percent month-on-month to 23.25 billion dollars in March.

"The growth in export value was primarily driven by non-oil and gas shipments, particularly metal ores, slag and ash, iron and steel, as well as electrical machinery and equipment parts," she said.

Meanwhile, imports edged up by 0.38 percent to 18.92 billion dollars compared to February.

Despite the overall surplus, the oil and gas sector posted a deficit of 1.67 billion dollars, largely due to crude oil and oil product imports. Enditem
