DHAKA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, a career diplomat, has been appointed as Bangladeshi Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's special assistant to the Foreign Ministry.

The country's Cabinet Division issued a notice to the effect on Sunday, giving him the rank and status equivalent to a state minister.

According to the official notification, executive powers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been delegated to Rahman to assist the chief adviser.

Rahman, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, served as Bangladesh's permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and as ambassador to Switzerland, Australia, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.

After retiring in 2024, he joined Bangladesh's leading private North South University as a senior research fellow. Enditem
