ISTANBUL, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police have seized 801.5 kg of methamphetamine and detained two suspects during a major operation in Istanbul, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Tuesday.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Yerlikaya said the operation was carried out in the Arnavutkoy district on the European side of the city.

During the raid, police confiscated 773 kg of liquid methamphetamine stored in 29 separate containers, along with 28.5 kg of crystal methamphetamine, he said.

A video posted by Yerlikaya on X showed police units, accompanied by specially trained sniffer dogs, raided a truck in a parking lot. The methamphetamine was found concealed in multiple compartments within the vehicle.

Turkish security forces frequently carry out operations against drug abuse and trafficking as part of the country's long-standing fight against narcotics. Enditem
