JAKARTA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's North Sulawesi province on Tuesday without triggering large waves, according to the country's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency.

The tremors occurred at 17:17 Jakarta time (1017 GMT), with the epicenter located 67 km southeast of Kepulang Talaud Regency at a depth of 107 km beneath the seabed.

The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, as the quake was not expected to generate destructive waves.

Situated on the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes and is home to 127 active volcanoes due to intense tectonic activity. Enditem
