BANGKOK -- Thailand successfully conducted a large-scale test of its new mobile emergency alert system using cell broadcast technology on Tuesday, with full implementation expected by July, authorities said.

According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the public trial took place at 1:00 p.m. local time when a single "National Alert" message was sent through all mobile network providers to users in the designated areas, including the capital Bangkok and four major provinces. TOKYO -- Japan's Nissan Motor Co. announced on Tuesday that it will consolidate or shut down seven of its manufacturing plants worldwide and reduce its global workforce by 20,000 employees by fiscal year 2027.

DHAKA -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to disburse the next two tranches of its 4.7 billion U.S. dollars loan package for Bangladesh, amounting to 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, in June.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- The Royal Brunei Customs and Excise department has confiscated 1,050 cartons of cigarettes, 10 cans of alcohol and found 1,752 Brunei dollars (1,343.46 U.S. dollars) in cash during an operation at national housing scheme area in Lambak Kanan near the capital.

Three people aged between 21-42 years old were arrested, and two vehicles believed to be involved in suspicious activities were also seized, the Customs said on Tuesday in a statement. (Brunei-Cigarettes) Enditem
