JERUSALEM, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Tuesday evening, amid a renewed wave of cross-border attacks by Yemen's Houthi group.
A Xinhua reporter in Jerusalem reported hearing explosions following the activation of air raid sirens across central Israel, including Tel Aviv.
Residents across large parts of central Israel received smartphone alerts shortly after the launch. Sirens followed within minutes, prompting millions to take cover.
Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service said two women sustained moderate and light injuries while attempting to reach shelter.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility from the Houthis.
Since Israel resumed its military offensive in the Gaza Strip on March 18, the Houthis have fired nearly 30 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones toward Israeli territory, according to Israeli media.
Tuesday's attack came a day after a reported uptick in Houthi missile launches, including one that landed outside Israeli territory on Monday.
The escalation follows a U.S.-Houthi ceasefire agreement brokered by Oman on May 6, intended to halt weeks of mutual strikes between the two sides. Despite the deal, Houthi leaders have pledged to continue targeting Israel until it ends its military operation in Gaza and lifts the blockade on the enclave. Enditem
