ABU DHABI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- The UAE National Guard rescued 16 people on Sunday during two maritime operations off the country's coast, according to local media reports.

In the first operation, the National Guard -- working in coordination with other emergency teams -- rescued three Asian nationals from a sinking cargo vessel. The reports did not specify the time, location, or cause of the incident.

In the second operation, carried out later the same day, the National Guard rescued 13 people from a sinking picnic boat. The reports noted that no fatalities were recorded.

Last week, the UAE conducted another rescue operation after a 50-year-old Indian national sustained serious burns aboard a cargo ship. The man was later airlifted to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi for urgent medical care, the reports said. Enditem
