MOSCOW, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian scientists have developed a lightweight aircraft coating that significantly reduces the frequency of repairs, the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute said in a recent report.

The institution said that the new paint and varnish system uses fluorinated polyurethane enamel in a wide range of colors, as well as a weather-resistant varnish. It works effectively on both metal and polymer composite materials used in aviation.

Compared to foreign alternatives, the home-made product decreases repair frequency by at least 40 percent, cuts painting time by more than 50 percent, and weighs 35 percent less, the institution noted.

The demand for Russia's domestic aircraft coating has increased in recent years, according to the research center. Enditem
