ISLAMABAD -- Torrential monsoon rains and flash floods have claimed at least 66 lives and injured 127 others across Pakistan since June 26, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Saturday.

KABUL -- The Afghan interim government's chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has welcomed the decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" as the de jure administration of the post-war central Asian state and hopes that other nations will follow suit.

NEW DELHI -- At least four people were killed and several others feared trapped after a portion of a coal mine collapsed Saturday in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, the police said.

ISLAMABAD -- The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi rose to 17 as more bodies were recovered from the debris, a spokesperson of the state-owned rescue organization Rescue 1122 told Xinhua on Saturday morning.

"The life detection equipment indicates that at least 10 people are still alive under the rubble. We're working urgently but carefully to rescue them," Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan, the operation's spokesperson, told Xinhua from the site. (Pakistan-Building Collapse) Enditem
