TOKYO -- Sanae Takaichi, leader of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was officially elected the country's prime minister on Tuesday after winning in both houses of parliament, becoming the country's first female leader.

ANKARA -- The Turkish parliament on Tuesday approved a presidential motion extending the mandate of Turkish troops stationed in Iraq and Syria for an additional three years.
