COLOMBO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Over 31,000 Sri Lankans have been affected by the current heavy rains, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said on Sunday.
The DMC said 31,623 people from 7,944 families have been affected by the bad weather, with 847 houses being damaged.
The Department of Irrigation said water levels in some rivers are high and warned people living in low-lying areas to be vigilant.
Sri Lanka has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days. The Department of Meteorology said on Sunday that showers or thundershowers would occur in the coming 24 hours in Northern and North-Central Provinces and in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts. Enditem
