NEW DELHI -- The impact of cyclone Montha has killed at least nine people, wreaking havoc and causing large damage and destruction in the southern Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, officials said Saturday.

According to officials, cyclone Montha made landfall on the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday night, bringing record-breaking rainfall, thereby triggering floods and waterlogging. The cyclonic winds tore through these states, damaging crops, transmission lines, utility poles and uprooting trees. Power outages have been recorded in many parts of the affected areas.
