HANOI -- The death toll from heavy rains and flooding in Vietnam's central region has risen to 40, with six people missing and 76 others injured, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority reported Tuesday.

TOKYO -- An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed at a poultry farm in the central Japanese prefecture of Niigata, local authorities said Tuesday.

MANILA -- A Philippine military Super Huey helicopter crashed on Tuesday in Agusan del Sur province in the Mindanao region in the southern Philippines while on a relief operation, the Philippine Air Force said.
