COLOMBO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan police on Wednesday discovered 30 million rupees (about 100,000 U.S. dollars) worth of hashish in a parcel found on Katukurunda Beach in the country's Western Province.
The parcel contained approximately 12 kg of hashish, police said, adding that it was first discovered by employees of a nearby tourist hotel after being washed ashore.
Police believe smugglers may have thrown it overboard from a boat to avoid detection by the navy.
Over recent months, the navy has detected and confiscated several tons of narcotics ranging from heroin to prescription drugs. Enditem
