VIENTIANE, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government has discussed draft decrees to strengthen governance and socio-economic management, reaffirming its commitment to stability, sustainable growth, and self-reliant development, local news website Lao Phattana News reported on Wednesday.

During the Lao government's monthly meeting for October, held from Monday to Tuesday, participants considered draft decrees on the job market information system, allocation of state land for housing, rubber development, border area management, cooperation between local officials and foreign organizations, and banknote management, said the report.

The meeting also reviewed progress in October and outlined priorities for November. Despite global and regional challenges, the government reported steady progress in maintaining political stability, social order, and economic growth.

The government continued implementing measures to stabilize prices, regulate trade, and promote agricultural production to strengthen food security, reduce import dependence, and boost exports. Efforts were also made to address electricity shortages by accelerating small-scale solar power projects and fast-tracking approved energy developments. Infrastructure upgrades progressed nationwide, with particular focus on repairing damaged highways to support transport, trade, and investment.

Teacher shortages have largely been resolved, and the student dropout rate has declined. The government also plans to implement emergency recovery projects in provinces affected by floods.

The meeting instructed ministries and local authorities to maintain macroeconomic stability, promote import substitution, regulate exchange rates, and manage public debt in line with efforts to build an independent and self-reliant economy. Enditem
