MOSCOW -- Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on Sunday evening that the Russian forces had taken control of Krasnoarmeysk in the Donetsk region and Volchansk in the Kharkov region, the Kremlin said in a statement on Monday.

UNITED NATIONS -- Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, sent another letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday, firmly refuting the unreasonable arguments made by Japan's permanent representative to the UN, and elaborating on the position of the Chinese government.

In the letter, which will be circulated to all UN member states as an official document of the General Assembly, Fu said the Chinese side has noted that on Nov. 24, Japan's permanent representative to the United Nations sent a letter to the UN secretary-general making unreasonable arguments, dodging the key issues, while groundlessly accusing China and seeking to shift blame. LIMA -- At least 12 people were killed, six injured and 30 others remain missing in a landslide-triggered river accident early Monday at the port of Iparia in Peru's Coronel Portillo province, police said.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. local time when the landslide struck the boarding area and hit two vessels that were docked at the port, said the police from the east-central Ucayali region, according to local media. (Peru-Accident)
