BAGHDAD, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- One was killed and 11 others injured, including 6 under critical condition, on Monday evening in a huge fire at a major oil refinery in Salahuddin province, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, local security and medical sources said.
The fire broke out in the evening in the Salahuddin 2 refinery, part of the Baiji refinery complex, also known as the al-Sumoud Refinery, Col. Mohammed al-Bazi from the Salahuddin provincial police command told Xinhua.
"The fire resulted in the death of one worker whose charred body was found at the scene, and the injury of 11 others with varying degrees of burns," al-Bazi said.
Mustafa al-Qaisi from the emergency department at Baiji General Hospital told Xinhua that six of the injured are in critical condition.
Al-Bazi said civil defense teams have brought the fire under control, noting that technical crews have begun repairing the damage to restore operations. Enditem
