HANOI, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's southern region has reported eight deaths from hand-foot-mouth disease since the beginning of this year, local daily Tuoi Tre reported on Monday.
Nguyen Vu Thuong, deputy director of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, said that as of week 12, the region had logged 17,078 cases, nearly doubling year on year.
Of the eight fatalities, four were reported in Ho Chi Minh City, while An Giang, Can Tho, Dong Nai and Dong Thap provinces each recorded one death. Enditem
