KABUL, May 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 28 people have been killed and 10 others injured in a fresh wave of rain-related disasters across Afghanistan over the past 48 hours, the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported late Saturday.
According to NDMA spokesperson Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad, the casualties resulted from flash floods, severe storms, landslide, torrential downpours, and lightning strikes in the provinces of Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Khost, Paktia, Wardak, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Herat, Badghis, Samangan, Sari Pul, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Laghman, and Kunar.
The deluge, which hit remote mountainous provinces particularly hard, completely or partially destroyed 710 homes, while washing away nearly 4,000 acres of agricultural land and 10 km roads, the official added.
Since late March, relentless heavy rainfall, successive flash floods, and violent storms have claimed more than 275 lives, including women and children, while leaving more than 350 others injured, according to official statistics. Enditem
