WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to restrict U.S. President Donald Trump's authority to continue military operations against Iran, with four Republicans joining Democrats.

The resolution, which passed by a 215-208 vote, directed Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from the war against Iran unless Congress authorizes further military action.

The vote came after three previous war powers resolutions failed in the House by slim margins. In the Senate, seven similar attempts have also failed. (US-Iran-War Powers)

BRASILIA -- Brazil will stand firm and not bow to the pressure of the latest U.S. trade offensive, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Wednesday.

At a cabinet meeting, Lula focused on a proposed 25-percent tariff on Brazilian goods announced by the Office of the United States Trade Representative two days ago.

"We have decided that this country will no longer adopt a 'stray dog' policy toward the great powers. No one needs to be afraid of anything; we will not bow our heads. We are a democratic and sovereign country. We will not give in," said Lula. (Brazil-US-Trade)

TEHRAN -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday its navy has targeted a U.S. destroyer in the Gulf of Oman that sought to approach Iranian territorial waters.

In a statement published by its official outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said its navy tracked U.S. "aggressive actions, violations of the regulations of the Strait of Hormuz and malicious acts against Iranian commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman," identified the command center aboard a U.S. destroyer, and struck it.

The IRGC said its navy is closely watching U.S. and Israeli "enemies" and will respond instantly to any hostile move. (Iran-US-Destroyer)

UNITED NATIONS -- Despite significant delays introduced at a new Israeli checkpoint, aid partners collected more than 1,000 pallets of essential supplies for Gaza in one day, UN humanitarians said on Wednesday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the pallets collected at the Kerem Shalom/Karem Abu Salem crossing on Tuesday included hygiene kits, tarpaulins, blankets and medicine.

OCHA said convoys traveling to Kerem Shalom/Karem Abu Salem to collect humanitarian cargo through the newly established southern Gaza checkpoint are still experiencing significant delays. (UN-Gaza-Aid) Enditem
