MOSCOW, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian drone strikes killed two people and damaged industrial and civilian sites across Russia's Volga River region overnight, officials said Sunday, as Kiev expanded attacks deep inside Russian territory.
Russia's Defense Ministry said air defenses downed 635 Ukrainian drones.
In the Saratov region of southwestern Russia, a strike on a residential building killed two people in Engels, Governor Roman Busargin said. Engels is home to a military air base, while nearby Saratov has a major oil refinery.
Farther northeast, a drone struck a warehouse in the Samara region belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, sparking a fire but causing no casualties. Enditem
