Kuwait arrests IS-linked suspect over plot targeting vital facility

KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti security authorities foiled a "terrorist plot" targeting a vital facility in the country and arrested a Kuwaiti national linked to the Islamic State (IS) group, the interior ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry said in a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency that the State Security Service uncovered the plot following intensive monitoring and surveillance operations.

Investigations found that the suspect had received training in making explosives and drones and had built a drone that he intended to use to attack a vital facility, the ministry said, without identifying the intended target.

The suspect was arrested before carrying out the attack and was referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings, according to the statement.

The announcement came one day after Kuwaiti authorities said they had arrested two minors accused of communicating with members of the IS group and receiving training in bomb-making as part of an attack plan. Enditem
