WELLINGTON -- Cook Islands caretaker Prime Minister Mark Brown's Cook Islands Party (CIP) secured a fifth consecutive election victory, allowing it to remain in government after defeating the opposition Cook Islands United Party in Wednesday's parliamentary election.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Unhealthy air quality was detected across 11 areas in Malaysia on Thursday, according to data from the country's air quality monitoring system.
The northern Borneo state of Sarawak was badly affected, with the Semarahan district recording the highest air pollutant index (API) of 183, followed by Serian (182), Kuching (176), Sarikei and Sri Aman (158), and Mukah and Sibu (152), according to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System. KATHMANDU -- A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in Nepal's western Rolpa district has killed 10 people and left two others missing, police said on Thursday.
The landslide occurred on Wednesday night in a remote hilly area, sweeping away nine houses, two cowsheds, a shop and a church. The entire small settlement was washed away by the disaster. (Nepal-Landslide-Casualties) Enditem
