UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon arrived in Tunis on Monday evening from Cairo. He was met in Tunis by the foreign affairs minister Mouldi Kefi, reported the official press agency TAP.

On Tuesday, Ban will meet with the Tunisian interim president and prime minister. He will attend a round-table meeting organized by young people and is expected to meet with members of the higher authority for the achievement of the revolution objectives, political reform and democratic transition.

Later in the day the UN chief will deliver an address before members of the country's civil society, non-governmental organizations, academics and students, before concluding his visit with a press conference. Initially scheduled on March 19, Ban's visit was postponed to March 22 due to his participation in Paris to the European Union-Arab League Summit on Libya on the same day.

The visit is the first one by the UN chief to Tunisia following the ouster of former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on January 14.
