Truck Overturns in Yunnan, Killing 11, Injuring 57

Eleven people died and 57 were injured on Sunday after a truck carrying 71 people overturned in southwest China's Yunnan Province, said local traffic police.

The accident occurred at 8:20 AM in Kafang Town, Gejiu City in Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Honghe, as the truck was heading to Kafang for a fair, said a spokesman from the city government.

The truck rolled as it tried to mount a pavement, leaving 11 passengers dead at the scene and 57 injured, seven seriously.

All the injured people were being treated in hospital.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
