The 80th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army is just days away and Chinese literature and music circles already are celebrating the milestone.

There's a new book about PLA music. It's a compilation of 176 classic songs, popular during the 1930's and the 40's. A copy of, "A History of PLA Music" was presented to the army.

There's also the Encyclopedia, "Military Edition". The book comprised of one-and-a-half-million words presents dissertations on 36 subject areas.

China's Writers Association is holding a symposium on the Kapok books, a series of tomes by writers from the Guangzhou Military Area.

There are 12 novels, including "Code Name Olive Branch" and "Soldiers." The books highlight passion and loyalty for the country and the army. The event is sponsored jointly by the Publicity Bureau of the PLA General Department of Politics and the China Writers' Association.

The first Generals' Photography Exhibition opened in Beijing. More than 200 photos taken by nearly 100 PLA senior officers. They form a fascinating chronicle of the 80-year history of the PLA.
