Typhoon Fung Wong approaches Taiwan
Adjust font size:

China's National Meteorological Administration (NMA) on Sunday morning launched the level-two emergency plan against Typhoon Fung Wong as it is forecast to make the landfall in Taiwan on Monday morning.

Fung Wong, the eighth tropical storm of this year which strengthened into a full-scale typhoon late on Saturday, is forecast to approach Fujian and Zhejiang provinces on Monday night or Tuesday after lashing Taiwan.

The eye of Typhoon Fung Wong was monitored at 440 km southeast of the island's Hua Lien as of 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, packing up force-13 winds and moving westward at a speed of 15 km per hour.

NMA urged meteorological departments at state level and in Zhejiang, Fujian and Shanghai to implement the level-two emergency plan immediately, with personnel on duty around the clock.

Anhui, Jiangsu and Jiangxi provinces are also required to get prepared for possible disasters.
