As the School of Artificial Intelligence at Shenzhen University was officially inaugurated on April 21, a significant strategic partnership was also launched between the Luohu District Government of Shenzhen and Shenzhen University. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly establish the Luohu District Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. This institute will be built around the Shen Nan Dong No.1 AI Research and Development Center project and will also serve as the Luohu Branch of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology at Shenzhen University.
This partnership aims to deepen industry-academia-research integration, and accelerate both the research and development as well as the industrial application of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Luohu, a pioneering district in Shenzhen's reform and opening-up efforts, is now committing extensive resources to AI development. With this initiative, the district seeks to position itself as a model AI city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, distinguished by its broad application of AI, leading innovation capabilities, and a robust aggregation of innovation elements.
The partnership draws on Shenzhen University's strong research foundation in AI and will focus on five key areas: large-scale AI models and foundational technologies, artificial intelligence in healthcare, industrial AI, embodied intelligence, and platforms for talent exchange.
By addressing core challenges such as large model algorithm optimization, intelligent diagnosis using medical imaging, and collaborative robotics for industrial quality inspection, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world industrial deployment.
