Beijing's western districts, once dominated by heavy industries, are transforming into a tech, sports, and culture hub, with 95 major projects slated for 2025 to establish the area as a revitalization landmark.

The city's top economic planner announced upgrades to the ski jump venue Big Air Shougang and its surrounding areas and renovations for the China International Fair for Trade in Services exhibition halls, among 56 ongoing and 39 new projects.

Key infrastructure improvements include the nearly completed Pingguoyuan transportation hub, which will link three subway lines and bus routes to improve accessibility.

Growth in these districts has been gathering momentum: Shijingshan district's GDP grew 9% year on year in Q1, while Mentougou rose 5.8%, driven by artificial intelligence, sci-fi industry, and modern services clusters. This year, more efforts will be put into developing virtual reality industry clusters.

Areas centering on the Shougang industrial park, the Garden Expo Park, and the Yongding River are set to become the core driving force of industrial transformation.

Additionally, the districts will host 50 major events this year, including the WTT Ping Pong Championships. This will draw crowds and further tap the region's cultural and tourism charm.
