China National Nuclear Power Co. Ltd. (CNNP) officially unveiled its new brand identity, embodied in the acronym "CNNP," and launched two new popular science books at the opening of the 16th China International Exhibition on Nuclear Power Industry (CIENPI) on Sunday in Beijing. The event showcased CNNP's latest achievements in brand development and public science communication.

Brand identity anchored in core values

CNNP's updated brand is built on four foundational values: "Credible," "Nice," "Net-Zero" and "Power" — reflecting the company's commitment to safe operations, public engagement and a low-carbon future.

Chen Jinxing, a member of CNNP's Party Committee, emphasized the company's exceptional safety record, with more than 300 reactor-years of safe operation. The company's reactor fleet has ranked first globally in safety performance for eight consecutive years. Notably, its Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant has been recognized as the world's first "lighthouse factory" in the nuclear sector.

In terms of public outreach — represented by the value "Nice" — CNNP has actively fostered public understanding of nuclear energy. Its "Appealing Light” science campaign has run for 13 years, engaging over 6 million participants nationwide. Meanwhile, the "Beauty of Nuclear Harmony" art exhibition and the development of six model nuclear communities have further helped bridge the gap between the nuclear industry and the public.

CNNP's environmental focus, symbolized by "Net-Zero," is demonstrated through the cumulative generation of 1.9 trillion kilowatt-hours by its 26 operating units — an output equivalent to avoiding 1.51 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions or planting 5.2 million hectares of forest. The company has also pioneered innovative nuclear applications, including residential heating from Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant and the "Heqi No. 1" project at Tianwan Nuclear Power Station, which supplies 4.8 million metric tons of zero-carbon industrial steam annually.

The value "Power" represents CNNP's dedication to social responsibility and sustainable development. Initiatives such as its report on biodiversity protection practices and the "I-Nuclear" technology service system are part of its broader effort to share Chinese nuclear expertise, standards and solutions with the world.

New publications bridge public knowledge gap

To help make nuclear science more accessible and dispel misconceptions, CNNP collaborated with China Science and Technology Press to publish two new science books after three years of development.

"This is Core-dinary Science" offers a comprehensive overview of the history, technology and applications of nuclear energy. Additionally, "Hardcore Nuclear Knowledge Handbook" answers 100 common questions on topics like radiation safety and nuclear medicine, using straightforward language tailored to everyday readers.

Xu Jia, a staff member from CNNP, described the books as "keys to understanding nuclear energy science," designed to promote scientific literacy and foster greater public trust in nuclear development.

Advancing toward world-class clean energy provider

Looking ahead, CNNP aims to strengthen its position as a world-class provider of clean energy solutions. Chen Jinxing noted that China is now the only country with the capability to deploy six types of reactor technology across the full industry chain — from investment and construction to operation.

Building on signature technologies like the Hualong One and Linglong One reactors, CNNP plans to further enhance its brand system and management practices. Guided by the CNNP brand, the company aspires to become a globally competitive, world-class provider of clean energy solutions.
