Editor's Note: From June 14 through late August 2025, the French Culture Center in Beijing stages "Marée Haute, Marée Basse," an illustration-and-sculpture exhibition by French artist Alice Des. Inspired by the Opal Coast of northern France, the show translates seaside memories into immersive summer scenes within a public cultural venue.
Alice Des works across gouache, screen print, digital illustration, and ceramics, favoring gouache on textured paper to build layered, lucid images. Her vocabulary — distinctive female figures, soft-style animal motifs, and graphic patterns — bridges retro aesthetics and contemporary life. Installed across corridors, reading spaces, and a dedicated display of objects, the exhibition treats holiday recollection as a living tableau rather than a static theme.
