Afghan counter-terrorism police have intercepted the trafficking of 70 individuals attempting to illegally cross into neighboring countries from southern Helmand province, the office of the provincial government announced late Thursday.
The individuals were apprehended at border points as they sought to exit Afghanistan through illegal channels, said the office, adding that no one will be allowed to engage in human trafficking or illegally exit the country.
Similarly, Afghan security forces disrupted multiple human trafficking attempts, though specific details on the number of individuals involved were not disclosed in western Nimroz province over the past 24 hours.
Afghanistan continues to face challenges with human trafficking and illegal migration, especially through Helmand and Nimroz provinces, key transit points for those seeking to enter neighboring countries for work or better living conditions.
