Northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district is moving forward with ambitious plans to become a four-season tourism hub, following the recent approval of two major projects by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.

The first initiative aims to upgrade the infrastructure of the Yanqing section of the Great Wall, involving the district's southeastern Badaling town, Jingzhuang town, and Dazhuangke township. Leveraging the ecological landscapes, historical relics, cultural geography, and folk traditions along the Great Wall, the project aims to create five themed national-level cultural and tourism corridors.

The second project will leverage Yanqing's Winter Olympics venue and its surrounding area. An infrastructure upgrade project, it will center on Yanqing's northwestern area, including Zhangshanying town, Jiuxian town, and Xiangying township. Building on the legacy of the 2022 Winter Olympics, the project will integrate the full range of natural resources around Haituo Mountain to promote year-round tourism experiences: mountain cycling in spring, camping and paragliding in summer, hiking and trail running in autumn, and ice skating and skiing in winter.

By highlighting both the cultural heritage of the Great Wall and the legacy of the Winter Olympics, Yanqing aims to create a sustainable model for cultural and tourism development.
