China-based ophthalmic leader Aier Eye Hospital Group showcased its growing influence in the fields of refractive and cataract surgery at the 43rd Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Through a series of presentations, academic forums, and strategic meetings, the hospital demonstrated its clinical advancements and fostered collaboration with eye care professionals from across Europe and Asia.
A key highlight was the appointment of Wang Zheng, head of Aier Eye Hospital's refractive surgery group, to the International Council of the International Society of Refractive Surgery. At a council meeting on Sept. 13, Wang shared Aier Eye Hospital's latest technical progress and clinical innovations in refractive surgery.
Underscoring its commitment to global dialogue, the hospital partnered with its European division Clinica Baviera to host an international seminar. The event, themed "Bridging Europe and Asia," brought together specialists from Aier Eye hospitals and clinics in China, Europe, and Southeast Asia to share regional clinical practices and research findings.
In his remarks, Eduardo Baviera, CEO of Clinica Baviera, highlighted his division's sustained growth and market leadership. Gonzalo Muñoz, Clinica Baviera's medical director, discussed physician training and surgical innovations, while Julio Ortega-Usobiaga, Clinica Baviera's Overseas Medical Director, gave a presentation on the 30-year development of LASIK technology within their European clinics.
Representing Aier's operations in China, Chen Qian of Wuhan Aier Hongshan Eye Hospital detailed the growth and technical innovation in Aier's refractive surgery services. Guo Huafang, a cataract specialist from Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital, presented the latest advancements in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, including prospects for integration with robotic technology.
Shin Hoy Choong, medical director of Aier Eye Hospital's International Specialist Eye Centre, offered insights into the trends and practices in refractive surgery in Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia.
In addition, the third meeting of Aier Global Refractive Surgery Advisory Committee (AGRSAC) was held during the congress. The international think tank, featuring experts from the U.S., South Korea, France, and other countries, joined Aier's leading surgeons to exchange views on clinical frontiers, industry trends, and future collaborations in refractive surgery.
AGRSAC has become a key academic platform bringing together leading refractive surgery experts worldwide. It provides lasting support for Aier Eye Hospital in advancing surgical innovation, strengthening international cooperation, and nurturing global medical talent.
Through its participation in ESCRS 2025, Aier further reinforced its influence in refractive and cataract surgery while broadening global collaboration in research, training, and clinical practice. Looking ahead to ESCRS 2026 in London, the hospital will continue working with international partners to drive innovation and advance ophthalmic development worldwide.
