Beijing's Daxing district has achieved steady progress in advancing high-quality development and is striving to build itself into a hub for high-tech industries and an international gateway, officials announced at a press conference on Monday.
Liu Yang, district mayor and director of the administrative committee of Beijing Daxing Airport City (BDAC), noted that Daxing will prioritize six key industries: airport-related businesses, biomedicine, future energy, the digital economy, commercial aerospace, and agricultural technology.
This year, the district has attracted over 1,000 high-quality projects. According to officials, Daxing leads the municipality in the number of companies moving into Beijing, the net growth of large-scale enterprises, and the quantity of major projects valued at over 100 million yuan (US$14.05 million).
A key engine of this strategy has been BDAC. Since Beijing Daxing International Airport began operations in 2019, BDAC has supported nearly 200 million passenger trips and over 1.5 million flights, cementing the airport's role as a major international hub. To date, BDAC has built 1.2 million square meters of industrial facilities and attracted 8,401 business entities, including 375 foreign-funded enterprises.
A robust aviation industry ecosystem is quickly taking shape in BDAC with the establishment of key institutions like the Civil Aviation University of China. A massive international convention and exhibition hub is also in development to further boost the area's role as a center for global exchange.
The district's development plan also extends to its traditional towns. Caiyu, a town known for its vineyards, is turning into a "Digital Fashion Town" to attract technology and creative enterprises. Panggezhuang, famous for its watermelons, will focus on modern agricultural technology and the growing pet economy.
A major new residential and public service area —— the Yongding Bay —— is planned to be built southwest of Beijing's Fifth Ring Road. The 13.68-square-kilometer area will feature an extensive green space, rapid transit connections to downtown Beijing and Daxing Airport, and a comprehensive network of public services, including new university campuses, hospitals, and over 20 new schools and kindergartens.
