Cross-Strait cultural publishing dialogue held in Beijing

A dialogue and exchange event focusing on cultural publishing across the Taiwan Strait was held in Beijing on Oct. 23. Nearly 100 cultural and publishing experts, scholars and institutional representatives from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan participated.

Attendees jointly discussed the current state and future prospects of the cross-Strait publishing industry, aiming to promote the inheritance and innovation of the outstanding traditional Chinese culture.

At the opening ceremony, Kong Lingzhi, standing committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairperson of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL), stated that publishing exchanges between the two sides serve as a vital bridge connecting the cultural veins across the Strait and fostering heart-to-heart connections between compatriots. 

Kong emphasized that the publishing communities from both sides have achieved resource sharing and complementary advantages over the years through copyright trade, cooperative publishing, academic seminars and other forms, injecting vitality into enhancing cultural identity. 

Looking ahead, he stressed that the publishing circles across the Strait should move forward hand in hand, adhering to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, using culture to deepen this shared identity.

Yang Lianfu, chairman of the Taiwan Book Publishing Association, also expressed his best wishes for cross-Strait publishing cooperation in a video speech.

Xiao Qiming, executive director of Zhonghua Book Company, emphasized in his address that compatriots on both sides of the Strait are connected by blood and jointly inherit the profound and outstanding traditional Chinese culture. 

He noted that publishing, as a key link in cultural dissemination, is tasked with the essential mission of enhancing mutual understanding, consolidating national identity, and promoting spiritual harmony between compatriots across the Strait.

During the forum, experts shared insights and visions for the cross-Strait publishing industry. Their discussions on innovation, technology and markets provided fresh momentum for cooperation, while the sharing of book projects paved the way for future copyright deals and closer integration.

The event served as a key bridge for cross-Strait publishers, and helped promote cultural prosperity and strengthen national unity through practical cooperation and the exchange of ideas.
