American figure skater Ilia Malinin broke his own free skate record to win the men's title at the 2025 ISU Skate Canada International on Sunday.

Malinin, who also won the Grand Prix in France, scored 228.97 points in the free skate to surpass his previous world record of 227.79 and finished with 333.81 overall. He finished more than 76 points ahead of runner-up Aleksandr Selevko of Estonia on 257.21, with Japan's Kao Miura third on 253.69.

In the women's singles, Japan's Mone Chiba totaled 217.23 points to claim her first Grand Prix title, ahead of Isabeau Levito of the United States. Japan's Ami Nakai took bronze with 203.09.

In ice dance, Lithuania's Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius outscored Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier in the free dance, but the Canadians' rhythm dance lead secured the gold with 202.89 points. Canadians Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha claimed bronze.

"It's not our best performance today, but it is our first competition of the season," Poirier said. "We come out of this event knowing that we have a lot of room for growth that I think we're really excited to work on when we get back home. We take this as a stepping stone as we head towards the rest of the season."

Canada also won the pairs event, as Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps came from behind for the title. Short program leaders Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin of Germany took silver, with Americans Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea earning bronze.

Skate Canada International was the third leg of the 2025-26 ISU Grand Prix series. The next stop is the NHK Trophy in Osaka, Japan, from Nov. 7 to 9.
