On Monday Shanghai Disney Resort announced the development of a fourth themed resort hotel, just as they welcomed their 100 millionth guest.

Located just steps from the theme park's main entrance, the new hotel will become the closest Disney hotel to the actual park. It will feature unprecedented immersive storytelling experiences, the type that only Disney can create. Upon completion, the hotel will serve as a gateway for guests to begin their Disney park experience, the resort stated in its announcement.

The development plan will also include new shopping and dining experiences, allowing resort guests to extend their Disney experience in the retail, dining, and entertainment district, located just outside the theme park.

"Guest experience is at the heart of everything we do," said Andrew Bolstein, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. "By blending creativity, innovation and storytelling, we continue to design and deliver new, unique experiences in true Disney style. Our latest expansion plans stand as compelling testaments to this commitment."

He added, "The new hotel will become another important touchpoint of our holistic resort offering, and with the additional shopping and dining experiences, we will provide our guests with a vibrant, comprehensive vacation experience with even more dynamic options."

These newly announced projects complement the ongoing expansion of the resort, which include a third themed hotel on the south shore of Wishing Star Lake, a ninth themed land featuring Spider-Man at Shanghai Disneyland, as well as a major expansion of the park's iconic "Soaring Over the Horizon" attraction.

Shanghai Disney Resort also provided updates on Monday for its third hotel, a nine-floor deluxe property that has not yet been named. It is currently undergoing interior renovations and a complete facade installation. Inspired by Shanghai's architectural heritage with Art Nouveau design, the hotel maintains the "authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese" principle.

Upon completion it will offer rooms with Shanghai Disneyland views alongside recreational amenities, including swimming pools in the indoor pavilion and outdoor area.

The resort's near continuous expansion and development responds to growing demand from guests across China and the rest of the world. Shanghai Disneyland welcoming its 100 millionth guest since its grand opening is an impressive milestone achieved, considering it has only just reached nine years of operations.

According to the TEA Global Experience Index 2024, released by the Themed Entertainment Association on Oct. 23, Shanghai Disneyland ranked fifth in attendance among the Top 25 Amusement/Theme Parks Worldwide. It has remained China's top-performing theme park in 2024, with record annual attendance of 14.7 million. This achievement stands out not only for Disney and the entertainment industry in China, but also proves to be an impressive milestone in the history of entertainment.
