Guangxi forum discusses national unity

A forum on building demonstration areas of fostering the sense of community for the Chinese nation in border areas with large ethnic minority populations was held on Tuesday in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Guangxi has been hailed as a national demonstration zone for ethnic unity and progress. In advancing the development of the demonstration area, the region has achieved sound economic and social progress, with all ethnic groups making steady strides toward modernization and enjoying a stronger sense of gain.

The forum was also held to mark the 90th anniversary of renowned Chinese sociologist and anthropologist Fei Xiaotong's in-depth field research in the Dayao Mountains in the northern part of Guangxi. 

The theory of "the pattern of unity in diversity of the Chinese nation," put forward by Fei, is believed to have provided intellectual support for strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation.
