Beijing announced 11 new municipal-level industrial tourism demonstration sites this week, increasing the city's total to 30.
The new sites were unveiled during a Nov. 5 promotional event in Haidian district, hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.
The additions reflect the city's industrial diversity, including the high-tech Xiaomi Science Park in Haidian and Robot World in Beijing E-Town.
Industrial tourism involves visits to operational or former industrial sites, offering the public a chance to learn about manufacturing processes, industry history and industrial heritage.
The announcement is a key step in implementing the Beijing Implementation Plan for Promoting the High-Quality Development of Industrial Tourism (2025–2027), released on Oct. 11, 2025. The plan aims to spur high-quality tourism development by building a tourism system that merges industrial culture with new consumption scenarios.
Beijing's network of 30 industrial tourism sites spans traditional crafts, intelligent manufacturing, cultural creativity and technological innovation. Three sites —798 Art Zone, 751 D·Park Beijing Fashion Design Square and the Red Star Erguotou Museum — have been designated as National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Bases.
Beijing plans to include industrial tourism development in its 15th five-year plan and aims to expand product offerings and boost market promotion. The city also seeks to more closely link industrial tourism with culture, technology, education and rural tourism to support high-quality economic growth.
