Bayern Munich's 16-match winning streak across all competitions came to an end as Union Berlin held the defending champions to a thrilling 2-2 draw at home in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Union began with high intensity, pressing Bayern deep and forcing errors from the visitors. Ilyas Ansah thought he had given the hosts an early lead, but his header was ruled out for a marginal offside after a VAR review. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when captain Danilho Doekhi fired home from a corner after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer failed to hold the ball cleanly.
Bayern netted an equalizer through Luis Diaz in the 38th minute, when the Colombian winger kept a difficult pass in play and curled a stunning strike from a tight angle past goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow.
After the break, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany brought on Lennart Karl for Serge Gnabry, but Union remained dangerous from set pieces and Doekhi struck his second of the match from close range in the 83rd minute to restore the lead.
Bayern substitute Tom Bischof sent in a perfect cross for Harry Kane, who powered home a header deep into stoppage time to salvage a point and extend Bayern's unbeaten league run.
"The first 30 minutes were not enough from us. Union did a lot of right things and showed their strength on set pieces. We must fight until the end in every game," Kompany said after the match.
Bayern stays top with 28 points from 10 matches, six ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig. Union ranks 10th with 12 points.
Elsewhere, Leipzig suffered its first loss since the opening day, falling 3-1 at Hoffenheim, who celebrated a fourth straight league victory. Third-placed Dortmund was held to a 1-1 draw at Hamburg, conceding deep into stoppage time. Bayer Leverkusen recorded a 6-0 rout of Heidenheim, while Monchengladbach beat Cologne 3-1.
Bremen notched a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Wolfsburg on Friday.
