Colombian winger Duvan Vergara was on target as Racing rose to fifth in Argentina's Primera Division Group A on Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Defensa y Justicia.
Vergara latched onto a long goal kick from goalkeeper Facundo Cambeses before rounding goalkeeper Enrique Bologna and tapping the ball into an empty net.
Racing now has 22 points from 15 games, three more than 10th-placed Defensa y Justicia.
Elsewhere, Newell's Old Boys secured only its third win of the campaign, overcoming Huracan 2-0 in Buenos Aires.
Luciano Herrera and Carlos Gonzalez scored for the Rosario outfit, which rose to 13th in the 15-team Group A.
In other Argentine top-flight matches on Saturday, Lanus drew 1-1 at San Martin, Union Santa Fe was held to a goalless home draw by Barracas Central, and Talleres Cordoba won 1-0 at home to Platense.
