Iran, Russia discuss nuclear cooperation ahead of UN watchdog meeting

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday exchanged views on Tehran's cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.

During a phone conversation, they also discussed the latest regional and international developments, according to the report.

They referred to the upcoming regular session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, scheduled for later this month in Vienna, and stressed the need for continued coordination between Iran and Russia regarding Tehran's engagement with the agency and related nuclear issues.

Lavrov, for his part, expressed Moscow's readiness to continue bilateral and regional consultations and emphasized the importance of cooperation among regional countries to maintain collective security.

Iran has suspended cooperation with the IAEA since June under a parliamentary law, citing the agency's failure to condemn Israeli and U.S. attacks earlier in the month on its nuclear sites and raising concerns about the safety of its facilities and scientists.
