Japan must immediately correct and retract its provocative remarks related to Taiwan, otherwise, all the consequences shall be borne by Japan, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday.

Lin made the remarks at a regular press briefing when answering a question about remarks regarding China's Taiwan recently made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, hinting at the possibility of military intervention in the Taiwan Strait.

"China firmly opposes this and will never tolerate this," Lin said. "Should Japan dare to resort to force and intervene in the Taiwan Strait, that would constitute an act of aggression. China will meet it with resolute counteractions."

"We sternly warn Japan that it must reflect deeply on its historical crimes of aggression, immediately cease interference in China's internal affairs, and halt its provocative and transgressive words and deeds. Do not play with fire on the Taiwan question, for those who play with fire will ultimately get burned," the spokesperson said.
