Borussia Monchengladbach appointed Eugen Polanski as head coach on Tuesday on a contract running until 2028, rewarding the former midfielder for stabilizing the team during his interim spell.

The 39-year-old stepped up from the club's reserve side in mid-September and gradually steadied a squad that had struggled for rhythm early in the campaign. His influence grew as Gladbach won three consecutive matches, including a DFB Cup victory over Karlsruher SC and Bundesliga wins against St. Pauli and Cologne, lifting the team into mid-table.

Club officials highlighted Polanski's tactical clarity and leadership qualities as key reasons for making the appointment permanent. "We held open and constructive discussions and were impressed from the outset by his character and his ideas for the team," said sporting director Rouven Schroder. He added that Polanski's approach provided "clear direction" and would help maintain the recent upward trend.

A youth product who made over 50 senior appearances for the Foals, Polanski described the appointment as a "deeply meaningful step" in his career. He emphasized the pride he felt coaching his hometown club and credited the staff and squad for embracing his methods throughout what he called "a demanding first phase."

During his interim spell, Polanski implemented a more compact defensive structure and rebalanced the midfield with an emphasis on work rate and positional discipline. The side also became more incisive in attack, scoring 10 goals in its last three competitive outings.

Polanski's promotion leaves a vacancy in the club's U23 setup, with internal restructuring expected in the coming weeks.
