Gaston Martirena scored in the 93rd minute as Racing reached the quarterfinals of Argentina's Primera Division Clausura tournament with a 3-2 home win over River Plate on Monday.
Santiago Solari gave the hosts the lead in the fourth minute at El Cilindro by heading in after a Gabriel Rojas cross from the left wing.
The visitors equalized just after the hour through Ian Subiabre, who took a touch to control Sebastian Driussi's cross before drilling a shot past goalkeeper Facundo Cambeses.
River took the lead two minutes later when Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero intercepted a defensive clearance before driving a 20-yard shot into the bottom right corner.
But the match took another turn in the 73rd minute as Adrian Fernandez's attempt from a tight angle deflected in off River defender Lucas Martinez Quarta.
Martirena restored his side's lead in the third minute of stoppage time by bundling in from close range after a scramble inside the six-yard box.
The result means Racing will face either Lanus or Tigre next weekend, with a place in the semifinals at stake. River is eliminated and needs a combination of favorable results to qualify for next year's Copa Libertadores.
In Monday's other round-of-16 duel, Gimnasia clinched a 2-1 away victory over Union Santa Fe. The team from La Plata will face Barracas in the quarterfinals.
