Beijing's radio, television, and online audiovisual industries achieved high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, producing acclaimed works that resonated across China and internationally, according to the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau at a recent forum during the 2025 Beijing International Audiovisual Conference in Yizhuang.
Innovation and integrated development helped establish "Beijing Audiovisual" as a recognized cultural brand, the bureau said. Breakout productions included historical drama "The Awakening Age," international series "Welcome to Milele Village," and "To the Wonder," which drove tourism to its filming location.
Technological advancement was a key driver. Beijing pioneered a full-chain ultra-high-definition (UHD) pilot project, launching China's first provincial-level 4K UHD channel on Beijing Satellite TV, and established a dedicated industry support fund.
International distribution expanded, with works like "To the Wonder" and "The Tale of Rose" airing on major overseas platforms. The sixth China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum reached a record scale, showcasing Beijing's achievements across the continent.
The city has attracted major international companies, such as Warner Bros. Discovery, and facilitated industry partnerships through the Beijing Cultural Forum and the China International Fair for Trade in Services.
Talent programs, including the "Jing Langya" initiative for industry leaders, as well as partnerships with the Research and Training Institute of the National Radio and Television Administration and the Beijing Film Academy, have developed a solid pool of talent.
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Beijing aims to leverage its dual role as a national cultural and sci-tech innovation center to continue leading China's audiovisual industry.
