Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei province formed a regional water conservation industry alliance, aiming to build a water conservation model and support regional high-quality development.

The industry alliance, launched at a conference on Nov. 28, marked a substantive step forward in the coordinated development of water conservation efforts across the region.

Consisting of 432 member entities, the industry alliance will promote the transformation of water conservation efforts toward larger scale, greater intelligence, and higher sophistication by integrating policy, technology, and market resources across the region. Meanwhile, it will also carry out deep cooperation in areas such as technology sharing, standard co-development, project co-creation, and joint policy promotion.

In recent years, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has made remarkable achievements in water conservation efforts.

Beijing has set a model in areas such as reclaimed water utilization, smart water management, and urban water conservation and loss reduction. Its water conservation indicators, including water consumption per 10,000 yuan of regional GDP, water consumption per 10,000 yuan of industrial added value, and the effective utilization coefficient of farmland irrigation water, have consistently led the nation.

Tianjin has taken the lead nationwide in formulating and issuing an implementation plan and development blueprint for water conservation, and the cluster-based development of the sector is beginning to show results.

Meanwhile, Hebei province has reduced water consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP by 17.2% compared with 2020. Innovative approaches such as efficient water-saving irrigation and contract-based water management have been introduced, and 167 counties, cities, and districts have met the evaluation standards for a water-saving society.

The three places have also jointly increased the water-use efficiency of key high-consumption industries to reach internationally advanced levels, with the regional water reuse rate surpassing 95%.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region water-saving industry alliance will create a replicable model nationwide.
