Veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has parted ways with Monterrey after the club's defeat to Toluca in the semifinals of the Liga MX Apertura tournament.
The 2010 World Cup winner said he had decided not to seek an extension to the season-long deal he signed last February.
"Yes, it is my last match," the 39-year-old said after Monterrey and Toluca drew 3-3 on aggregate, a result that saw the latter progress due to a superior regular-season record.
Ramos made 32 appearances and scored seven goals across all competitions for Monterrey, including four games and a goal at the expanded edition of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
"We are sad, but with a clear conscience knowing we gave everything on the pitch," the Real Madrid great said in a message to fans on social media. "Now it's time to learn, get back up, and understand that this is also part of football.
"The biggest regret is not being able to give the fans another final, because they deserve it the most. Thank you always for your support."
